Inspired by John Everett Millais iconic 1852 Ophelia painting, Joan of Arc reimagines the Maid of Orléans, floating amidst her ashes down the Seine River. Though burned at the stake and her ashes dispersed so they could not be used as relics, her spirit still carries the banner she bore in life. The riverbanks flanking her are scattered with the remains of battle, suggesting that despite her death, the Hundred Years’ War rages on.
